For Families / Comprehensive Assessments
Comprehensive Assessments
A comprehensive psychoeducational assessment provides the information you need about a student’s cognitive, academic, and/or social and emotional functioning.
A comprehensive psychoeducational assessment may be appropriate for your student if you have concerns about a possible learning disability (dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), general learning difficulties, intellectual disability, anxiety, depression, or any other concerns.
All of our assessments are rooted in the RIOT methodologies: Review of Records, Interview, Observation and Testing.
How it works
Free 30-minute Consultation
We start all potential assessments with a free consultation meeting (up to 30 minutes). During this conversation we will discuss questions and concerns, review pertinent information, and establish next steps.
Parent/caregiver Interview and Consultation Meeting
If the team agrees that an assessment is necessary, we will create an assessment plan that outlines all the areas we will evaluate and the methods of assessment we will use. We will also set up an initial parent/caregiver meeting to gather developmental history, information on current functioning, and goals for the assessment.
Review of Records, Interviews + Rating Scales
We will review all of your student’s pertinent school records. (may include report cards, IEPs, 504 Plans, Student Success Team Meeting notes, etc.). We will communicate with your student’s teachers, doctors, and/or service providers, to gather information. If needed, we will distribute rating scales to various individuals.
Observation
We will observe your student 1-2 times in the school setting (or alternate setting, if applicable). School based observation may not be appropriate for all students and this can be discussed at the consultation meeting.
Testing
Once all the background information is gathered we begin our individual testing sessions in the office. Students typically require 8-10 hours of testing, which we schedule over multiple sessions to meet your family’s needs.
Feedback Meeting
After the assessment is complete, we hold a meeting to review your student’s strengths, areas of need, diagnosis (if applicable), and recommendations. We will answer any questions and discuss the implications of the results. We typically recommend only parents/caregivers attend. If needed we can provide a student/adolescent feedback meeting.
Written Report
You will receive a full written report within 7 days of your feedback meeting. This document will outline the assessment questions, methods, results and provide specific recommendations.
School Meeting
If needed, we will attend a school-based meeting (IEP, 504 Plan, SST, Parent/Teacher Conference, etc.), up to two hours in length, within 6 months of the assessment date, to help review the results and recommendations.
Follow-up Support
If needed, we are available to provide follow up support in further understanding your student’s results, navigating the education system, and finding applicable services in the community.
