Helping Your Child Feel Safe & Understood

When your child or teen is wrestling with big feelings, shutdowns, outbursts, or avoiding school, it can be hard to know how to really help.

I work with children, adolescents, and young adults who are navigating Autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and other emotional or behavioral challenges. I partner with parents and caregivers to understand their child’s needs and find practical, supportive ways to respond. Parenting can feel isolating. You’re not alone in this.

At EmpowerED, my work is grounded in a client-centered approach, helping you and your child build confidence, clarity, and tools to navigate everyday life.

Through therapy and parent coaching, I help support people of all ages navigating:

Autism and ADHD

Anxiety and school-related stress

Social struggles

Anger, behavior challenges, and emotional regulation

Centering Safety, Agency, And Connection

Creating emotional safety is at the heart of my work. I offer a judgment-free space where you are at the center of the work we do together.

When we work together, my goals are to:

Truly understand you and your child’s needs, goals, and strengths
Collaborate to increase or create more meaningful connections, resources, and skills
Work alongside you to cultivate self-awareness, self-advocacy, and self-acceptance
Support you in making choices that align with your family’s values and your child’s neurotype

Whether I am meeting with a young person individually or working with parents and caregivers, I want the process to feel collaborative, respectful, and genuinely supportive.

Seeing The Whole Person, Not Just The Diagnosis

Each child is the expert of their own experience and carries strengths and insights we can build on together.

My work also draws on a “systems perspective,” which means I am always paying attention to the environments around a child or teen: home, school, peers, and community. Those contexts shape how your child feels, behaves, and sees themselves, so they are always part of our work together.

In sessions, I integrate approaches such as:

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
Play-based therapy and creative modalities
Neuro‑affirming support for Autistic and ADHD profiles
Collaborative, skills‑building work with caregivers

Informed By My Own Culture, Language, And Family

As a first-generation Chinese-American, I grew up with a strong sense of service to others and community from my father, who was orphaned at a young age in China. I am deeply influenced by the role of language and culture in shaping identity and values, as I toggled between two different cultures my whole life. I found a wanderlust for culture and travel at a young age. My curiosity and passion brought me to Alaska, where I worked with at-risk Native and residential Alaskan youth in wilderness programs. This experience unexpectedly began a lifelong passion and career in teaching life skills to youth in various settings, from nature programs to residential treatment centers to public schools.

I am also a mother of two neurodivergent children, which brings a very personal and humbling dimension to my work. Parenting neurodivergent kids while supporting other families gives me daily reminders of how complex, exhausting, and beautiful this journey can be.

A Career Shaped By Service And Curiosity

As an adult, I love learning and deeply value education. As a child, I navigated undiagnosed inattentive ADHD and didn’t find what worked for me as a learner until late in college. As I built strategies and learned to advocate for myself, I began to feel more confident and capable, which now fuels my passion for helping others find what works for them.

I am passionate about supporting people of all ages through their lifelong learning process and self-discovery

Training And Experience

Professionally, I bring nearly twenty years of experience working with youth in various settings and nearly the last decade specializing in Autism, ADHD and emotional barriers to learning in education settings.

My work is grounded in:

Client-centered care
Neuro‑affirming practice for Autistic and ADHD youth
Evidence-based approaches for anxiety and attachment
Expressive arts therapy and play-based interventions to facilitate healing beyond traditional talk therapy

Credentials

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) #137769
Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential

This combination of clinical training, school-based experience, and lived experience allows me to support both the emotional world and the day‑to‑day realities of neurodivergent children and their families in a compassionate, practical, and sustainable way.

Life Outside The Office

Outside of work, I love spending time with family and friends and staying connected to the things that bring me joy, especially my dog! I enjoy travel, camping and backpacking, being in nature, music, and theater.

Those experiences, and the people I share them with, continue to broaden my view of the world and deepen my appreciation for the many different ways people live, learn, and connect.
